In adopting Sandford Fleming’s proposal for standard time using time zones in 1885, Canada chose a time measurement system that greatly simplified communications throughout its vast territory.
However, adjustments were needed over time to harmonize time zones with the geographical areas defined by different longitudes.
Also, the Canadian population took some time to adapt to the new way of doing things – one that seems completely natural today. When the changeover was made, some people kept two watches, one showing standard time, the other the old local time
